The quiet failure point

Ridge Capping, Repointing & Rebedding

Ridge capping sits in mortar that the coast's sun, salt and southerlies slowly crack apart. When the pointing goes, caps loosen and water finds the bedding. Caught early it is a day's work; ignored, it is the lid coming off in the next big blow.

Scope

What this job includes.

  • Loose capping lifted and rebedded on fresh mortar
  • Flexible pointing compound, not rigid mortar that re-cracks
  • Cracked and slipped tiles replaced along the ridges
  • Valley and hip capping checked and corrected
  • Photo report of every ridge line, before and after
Our system: We point with flexible compound rated for coastal movement, which is why our ridge work is still tight when rigid mortar jobs from the same year have cracked again.
How we quote it

On the roof first, then a fixed price.

No driveway guesses. We climb the roof, photograph what is failing, and put the scope, the materials and the price in writing before any work starts.

The 7-line quote
  1. 1 The inspection report. Photos from on your roof showing exactly what is failing and what is still sound. Not a guess from the driveway.
  2. 2 The fix, itemised. Materials by name (the Colorbond colour, the membrane brand, the screw class) and labour for the whole job. No "from" pricing.
  3. 3 The edges of the job. What is not included, named up front: gutters, skylights, solar removal and reinstatement. No surprise lines later.
  4. 4 The guarantee. 10-year workmanship in writing, plus the manufacturer warranty on sheets, tiles or membrane registered to you.
If a quote doesn’t show these lines, you can’t compare it, and you don’t know what’s been cut.
How it runs

What happens, step by step.

1

Call or send photos

Tell us what the roof is doing. If water is coming in now, the storm line answers 24/7 and a tarp comes first.

2

On-roof inspection

We get on the roof, photograph what is failing and what is sound, and hand you the report whether you book us or not.

3

Fixed quote in writing

Materials named, scope edges named, price fixed. You can compare it against anyone, line by line.

4

The work, then the walkthrough

Done to the quoted scope, site cleaned, and a magnet sweep of the yard for screws before we leave.

Insured, covered, guaranteed

The paperwork behind the price.

Public liability to $20M, and a 10-year workmanship warranty, all in writing, all on request.

Roofing work over $5,000 and all roof plumbing must be done by a licensed contractor in NSW, and our licence number is on every quote so you can check it on the Fair Trading register. Public liability cover protects your home and your neighbours if anything goes wrong at height, and the workmanship guarantee means if something we installed fails, we come back and put it right, in writing, for a decade.

The cover, the guarantee, and how to check each one.
Questions, answered

Ridge Capping, Repointing & Rebedding: common questions.

How do I know if my pointing has failed?
From the ground: crumbling grey mortar lines along the ridge, visible gaps under capping tiles, or bits of mortar in the gutters after rain. Any of those means it is worth a look before the next front.
Rebedding versus repointing, what is the difference?
Bedding is the mortar the caps sit on; pointing is the weather seal over it. If the bedding is sound we repoint only, which is cheaper. If caps rock when pushed, the bedding has failed and honest work means rebedding first.
